Chapter 19: Answers and new questions

Maki was sitting next to Douglas since they found him. Somehow he had been teleported here and even been taken off his space suit. They found it in the locker to the right of the bed. Maki wasn't a little bit patient at all. And therefore she couldn't just wait for something to happen. But nobody knew this except of her. They all thought she was the most patient creature here but the ship itself. They knew nothing. Maki never just waited. She listened. Although she couldn'd seperate the thoughts of a person without seeing it or being very close, she could listen to all of them at the same time. She would never have admitted, but it was like a drug. Maki left her body and dived into the stream of thoughts. 'I can always return. No need to worry.' Suddently the scene changed. A mind, not present before, appeared. A mind she knew. The only one not disappearing in the stream of many. 'Douglas.' Maki opened her eyes. Douglas hadn't moved and no change could be noticed by a non-telepathic. But his mind was present again. 'You seem to be waking up, I better tell the others.'

Half an hour later Douglas was surrounded by Maki, Rain, Silk, Gold, White, Wind and even Fire and Erik. They needed some time to thank him for saving the ship and to tell him what had happened in the meantime. "But now I'd really like to show you something. And since we are all here we can as well go together." Gold finished the conversation. A short walk later Gold opened a door three times as wide as the normal ones. They went through it. It was dark and nobody could see anything outside the light provided by the door.

"Wait a moment. I'll turn on the lights." Gold said. The lights went on and Douglas was really impressed. As well as the others. Well, the others except of the four lead engineers who had already been here.

'That's huge.' Douglas thought. They were standing on a platform about 10 metres above the ground. It was surrounded by a red handrail. The whole room was 50 metres high, 100 metres wide and 200 metres long. It was lit by thousands of light panels on the walls and the ceiling. Everything was white except of the uncounted doors at different heights, which were all painted green and a few red markings. In the middle of the hall there was a black object. Gold pushed a button and the platform moved down. It perfectly fitted into a pit and the handrails were lowered, leaving nothing but red lines on the floor.

"We haven't told the others yet." Gold said.

The black objects were the parts of the ship Douglas had wracked.

"How did you get it in here?" Douglas asked.

"Teleporters." was Gold's simple answer.

So far only Douglas and the lead engineers had seen the ship. In fact it was the first one the Norns and Ettins had ever seen, except of the "Albian Explorer".

They went around the wrack. There were lots of tiny pieces but the ship itself didn't look that damaged. At least you could see how it had looked before. When Douglas noticed the letters on it he was shocked.

"That can't be." he yelled.

"What's the matter?" Rain asked. But Douglas couldn't speak.

"The letters." answered Maki for him. "NASA has a special meaning for him. It's something on his home planet."

"Let's have a close look." Rain went closer. "No, there are only those letters. Nothing else."

"You should have a look at this one." Silk said. "It's some kind of sign. Here, on the bottom of the wing. Wait a moment. Hell, what's that? It reads 'Type: Delta D42, Built: 2593, Manufacturer: Advanced Space works, Owner:' Oh, here it is. 'New Albian Space Association (NASA)' What the hell... New Albia?"

"Wait until you see what is inside..." Wind said.
