Ma G's Saga, part 5 or Grace in the Sky with Egg
Ma G stood up and walked to the very edge of the island. The waves from the great sea splashing her feet. She looked up, and in the distant sky could see the Egg. Karma's egg, how could she have forgotten that.
The missing norn and the missing grendel slipped from her mind. Her eyes stared to glaze over as she went back in her into her deep thoughts. Her memories. Yes, she remember quite clearly now, that day, that twilight in which things had happen. She could almost hear the distant voice calling her once again.
"Grace, Grace come. Grace come now," she could hear Karma calling from a distance. She turned around and could see Karma calling her from the temple.
"Karma," she called back. "Grace is coming to Karma now" she called, as she made her way to the temple. Karma had grown into a beutiful young norn. Tall and full of gracefullness, smarter then any other norn that Grace had talked to.
Yes, Karma could almost talk back to her, as well as she could talk to Karma. She had learned most of what Grace had taught, though she still had trouble speaking clear sentences and putting the words together correctly. She could however understand everything that Grace said.
It made Grace proud, almost as if the norn was her own daughter. Karma filled the emptyness of her heart. Took away that lonely pain deep within her soul. Over the past few years as Karma had grown up, she had become almost everything to Grace.
"Grace," Karma said again softly as she entered the temple.
"Karma," Grace said as she bent down to give her a hug.
"Karma love Grace", Karma responded. "Karma scared Grace", she said looking up at her with wide eyes.
"Karma scared?" Grace said back to her. What in the world would Karma be afraid of? Karma wasn't the type of norn that ran away. Heck, she even slapped grendels simple if they got to close to her. What could this be about?
"Karma, what is scaring you?" she asked.
"Karma scared for Grace, Karma afraid of Shee".
"Why are you afraid of the Shee Karma?" she asked. She had explained to Karma long ago what would happen if the Shee caught them together. Only they never had, and Karma was always so carefull when she snuck out through the garden to the temple.
Suddenly there was a shout, "She's over there!"
"I see her, what's that with her?" another Shee yelled.
"I can't make it out to clearly, it's green, it must be a grendel!" the first Shee responded.
"Shoot it with the beam! Quick! Before it kills Karma!" shouted the second Shee.
Grace stood tranfix at the scene unfolding before her. She could see the one Shee pointing a shaft at her. The Shee's finger on the button, pushing it. Suddenly she was knocked to the ground!
Only she hadn't been hit by the beam, instead it engulfed Karma. She had pushed Grace out of the way. Now the beam was surrounding her. To Grace it appeared as if Karma was getting smaller, and as the ball of light shrunk so did Karma. Then as the light began to fade she could see the center of it. Karma was no longer there, instead there was a blue egg with white spots around the bottom of it. It had turned Karma into an egg!
Grace could see the Shee were frozen in place from the shock of what they had just done. Thinking quickly she grabbed the egg and ran towards the sub bay. She saw the lift going up to the grendels main nesting tree and jumped in. Up, up she went to the top of the shaft. Once there she started to climb to the top of the tree.
Upon reaching the top of the nesting tree she stopped and listened. No sounds of pursuit. She didn't think they would follow her into the grendels tree, it was to close to twilight. They would wait for the new day, and she knew it would be then that they hunted her down and kill her like a mad grendel.
She sat there, holding the egg close to her chest. Trying to calm down so she could think clearly. She knew she was done for, no hope of any real escape, Albia was a small place. There were the purple mountains but she didn't know how to get there so that was no hope either. She resigned herself to her fate, but what about the egg?
Maybe the egg could be hatched if she put it someplace warm. Maybe Karma could be brought back by doing that. She would hide the egg somewhere warm. Somewhere nobody would find it. Hide it before the Shee came looking for it.
She thought of the island. There was a platform there and no way to reach it from the ground. It was built there in such a way you couldn't climb the coconut trees to get to it and there was no lift. (also no teleporter at this time).
How to get the egg up there though. She thought, then she remember the big floating ball that had the basket on it. She had seen norns riding in it before so it must be easy to use.
It was twilight now and Grace climb down out of the grendels nesting tree. They left her alone as she popped out by the lift. Taking the lift down she went to the sub bay and climbed in. Once at the island she went down the other lift to the glass tube that ran under the great sea. Then she went up the lift in the tower, she knew that was where she would find the air ball.
There were no Shee around, but she hadn't expected there to be. They mainly stayed underground in a world of there own making. She spotted the air ball and climbed in hold the egg to her chest. Above her head she saw a box with fire in it, she could guess that was what made it fly.
She pulled the cord hanging down from it, and up the ball went with her in the basket. She was lucky this twilight, the wind was blowing left back towards the island. Suddenly she heard a loud shrill noise. She knew what it was. The Shee in one of their flying ships.
It was coming straight at her! She pulled the cord again and higher she went. She saw something she had never seen before, a white hole in the sky! The Shee might get her, but maybe she could get the egg in the hole before that happen. She pulled the cord again so she would be closer to it.
The Shee were almost upon her as she stretched out her arm that was holding the egg. She couldn't reach the hole, it was still to far away.
Realizing she had no choice she tossed the egg at it. It stopped short of the hole, but instead of falling it just floated there. Floated in midair!
If she had time to think she would have been amazed, but the Shee's ship had harnessed the airball. She heard one of the Shee exclaim "Don't kill it! It's not a grendle! Knock it out!"
She felt something sting her in the back, she reached behind and pulled it out. Some kind of dart! Grace felt dizzy, but she could still hear the Shee talking.
"What is it?" the one asked.
"I don't know," the other replied. "It not a grendel, and it's certainly not a norn! The boys in the lab will have a field day with this one!"
What do they mean? Grace thought right before she passed out.......................................
What has
happen to the norn,
do they wander in the corn?
And where
the Grendels be,
only she will see...
